Perform an action when an Email Sequence ends

Let's say you've created the perfect email sequence to send to qualified leads but they don't convert during your expected sales cycle. That's ok - sales is all about the follow-up. Don't sit around and wait for them to respond to an old email. Instead, take our advice and create a killer long-term follow-up sequence and improve your follow-up hustle.

The Close Sales team send their first email sequence to trials which includes three emails over the course of the 14-day period. The trial could expire but that doesn't mean that lead is lost. If the lead makes it through the first sequence and doesn't convert to a customer, they can be automatically added to a 90-day nurture sequence for example.

What you will need

  • A Close account and your API key
  • A Zapier account that allows multi-step zaps

How this integration works

Automatically do something when an Email Sequence is finished. In this example, we will automatically subscribe a contact to a new sequence when the old one ends.

Pro Tip: Additional Action Steps

Here are some other actions you could do once an Email Sequence is finished:

Update Lead: change the Lead Status or update a Custom Field when the sequence is finished.

Step 1: TRIGGER something to happen when an Email Sequence ends

In our example, the trigger will be "New or Updated Email Sequence Subscription in Close".

Trigger step in Zapier

Under Edit Options, select your Email Sequence name from the drop-down menu or leave the field blank. If you leave the field blank, the Zap will trigger when any Email Sequence is finished. Select "Finished" as your Action.

Step 2: Decide what ACTION will happen when the Email Sequence ends

In our example, the action step will be "Subscribe Contact to Email Sequence" in Close.

Action Step in Zapier

Under the "Set Up Template" screen, select the following options for each section:

  • Contact: scroll to the bottom and select, Use Custom Value (advanced).
  • Custom Value for Contact ID: select the Contact ID from Step 1.
  • Sequence: select the email sequence you would like each contact subscribed to.
  • Sender Account: select your email account.
  • Sender: select your email address.

Click Continue and test your action step. Once tested, all you need to do is select "Finish" and turn the zap ON.

Pro Tip: Choose who to send the sequence from

You can set up an email alias in Close and use that email address in the "Sender" field in the zap. Keep in mind, the entire sequence will be sent from this alias. Click here for instructions.
