# AI Credits

Close uses a credit-based system to power advanced AI features. Credits are pooled at the account level, reset monthly, and do not roll over.

Close has three separate billing areas: your **CRM plan**, **telephony usage** (calls, SMS, and phone numbers), and **AI credits**. These are billed and invoiced separately. This article covers AI credits only. See [Calling and SMS Usage](https://help.close.com/docs/calling-and-sms-usage) for telephony rates.

Some AI features are **always free** — they never consume credits and keep working even if your balance hits zero.

If You Were Part of the Chloe Beta

A couple of things to know about what changes on June 3:

- **Telephony charges now apply to Voice Agent calls.** During the beta, these were waived. Starting June 3, Voice Agent calls are billed at standard telephony rates (the same rates that apply to calls placed by your human reps). This is separate from AI credits.
- **As a thank-you for your early participation, Chloe beta customers receive 100,000 free AI credits.** Credits will be applied to your account at your first billing cycle on June 3, 2026, and must be used over your next two billing cycles.
- **AI credits cover AI processing costs** (Voice Agent, Enrichment, Auto Updates).

## What Uses Credits

### Free — No Credits Required

These features are available and never consume credits:

### Credit-Based Features

> **Important:** All Voice Agent calls will be charged telephony usage and AI credit charges. Think of it like a human rep making calls — the same telephony rates apply. See [Calling and SMS usage](https://help.close.com/docs/calling-and-sms-usage) for telephony rates.

Call Assistant and standard calls and SMS are billed as telephony and do not use AI credits.

## Included Credits by Plan

Every Close plan includes a monthly credit allocation based on the number of users on your account. Credits scale per user up to a cap — the cap varies by plan. Additional users beyond the cap don't add more included credits.

> **Trial accounts** receive a fixed 1,000 credits (not per-user). Trial credits do not roll over when you upgrade to a paid plan.

If you add a user to your account mid-billing cycle, the additional included credits for that user are added to your balance immediately.

## Adding More Credits: AI Credit Subscription Plans

If your included credits aren't enough, you can purchase an **AI Credit Subscription Plan** for a predictable monthly credit allocation. Credits from a subscription plan reset monthly and do not roll over.

Larger plans offer a better per-credit rate.

### Upgrades

You can upgrade your AI Credit Subscription Plan at any time. When you upgrade:

- You are charged the **full price of the new plan** (no proration)
- You receive the **full credit allocation** for the new plan immediately
- Your billing cycle alignment stays the same
- Your credits do not roll over into the next billing cycle

### Downgrades

Downgrades take effect at the **start of your next billing cycle**. Your current credit allocation continues until then.

Your AI Credit Subscription Plan billing cycle is aligned with your CRM subscription cycle — both reset on the same date each month.

## Managing and Monitoring Credits

### Controlling Credit Usage

**Enrichment and Auto Updates** can be toggled on or off at any time from your AI Credit settings. This controls whether those features draw from your credit balance.

**Chloe Voice Agents** do not have a simple on/off toggle in AI settings. To stop or limit Chloe Voice Agent credit usage:

- **Deactivate** the Voice Agent in its Settings tab — a draft Voice Agent will not place calls
- **Remove** the Chloe Voice Agent step from any Workflows that trigger it
- **Avoid running** Batch calls until you're ready to resume

There is no global credit cap or per-Voice Agent credit limit.

### Viewing Your Usage

Admins can view credit usage from **Settings > AI Credits**, including:

- Credits remaining and a breakdown of usage by feature
- Low-credit warning banners in-app
- A CSV export of usage data for detailed reporting

### Low-Credit Notifications

| State | When It Triggers |
| --- | --- |
| **Warning** | You've used ≥75% of credits **and** are on pace to run out before the billing cycle resets |
| **Exhausted** | Credits are fully depleted |

Admins also receive email and in-app notifications when credit thresholds are reached.

Credit-based features resume as soon as more credits are added.

## Trial Credits

Trial accounts start with **1,000 credits** and have access to all credit-based AI features. Trial credits do not roll over when you upgrade to a paid plan.

Free features (Lead Summaries, Email Thread Summaries, Notetaker, AI Rewrite, Chloe Chat, AI Search, AI Knowledge Sources, Suggested Action) continue working even after trial credits are depleted.

## FAQs

**Do credits roll over month to month?** No. Both included credits and AI Credit Subscription Plan credits reset at the start of each billing cycle.

**Can individual users have separate credit limits?** No. Credits are pooled at the account level and shared across all users.

**Do Chloe Voice Agents use telephony charges as well as credits?** Yes. Chloe Voice Agent calls consume AI credits for AI processing, and also incur standard telephony charges (per-minute rates) — the same rates that apply to calls made by your human reps. See [Calling and SMS Usage](https://help.close.com/docs/calling-and-sms-usage) for telephony rates.

**Does Call Assistant use AI credits?** No. Call Assistant (summaries and transcripts) is billed as telephony and does not use AI credits at this time. This may change in a future update.

**Do regular calls and SMS use AI credits?** No. Standard calls and SMS are billed as telephony, separately from AI credits.

**What happens to my credits if I downgrade my subscription plan?** Downgrades take effect at the start of the next billing cycle. Your current credit allocation continues until then. We encourage you to use your credits before your next billing cycle renews.
